Have you heard of the POGO pass?!
I've decided to do a little "review" of the POGO pass.
On the website it says that the "pogo pass is a membership that provides you 12 months of FREE access to the best entertainment venues in Phoenix".
Maybe you've heard of it, but wasn't sure what it was exactly. Or if it was worth it. Or you're wondering if it would make a good Christmas gift.
Well hopefully this will help you figure all that out.
We decided to purchase the POGO pass in February of this year and try to only do those things for our family entertainment throughout the year. Keep in mind we are a family of 7, so it's costly to do pretty much anything!
Before I get into the details, I will admit that it is WAY more fun when your friends have POGO passes too and you can do things with a few other people. Everything's better with friends!
So in no certain order I'll quickly cover what we did, and then how much it WOULD HAVE cost us. Keeping in mind we only bought 6 passes, since Gwen was free for a lot of stuff, still being only 2 years old.
We went to 2 Diamondbacks games. Granted the seats are pretty way up there, but still some good baseball!
During the summer (when we want some indoor activities) we went to Pump It Up. Now you could go twice, but so far we've only gone once. And in case you don't know, it's like a huge room full of bounce castles, obstacle courses and cool blow up things for the kids to play on/in. Wears the kids out!
A friend of ousr took a few of our kids with when they went to the Phoenix Mercury game. (Tim & I had no interest in that). But in case that's up your alley, you could go to 3 games in a year with the passes.
We did however, enjoy 3 Arizona Rattlers games. Those are some fun, intense and loud games. If you've never been to an AFL (Arena Football League) game, you should try it!
Enchanted Island Amusement Park is a quaint little place set in Encanto park in downtown Phoenix. It's geared more towards the 4-8 year old age range I think. The older kids could only ride a couple rides and Gwen could only ride a few. But it's a great place to stop for a quick, fun time if you're in the area anyway.
Golfland Sunsplash was probably our favorite visit of the year. We did go with our good friends, which is always better. But what a great thing to do on a hot July day in AZ!
The Phoenix Zoo is always fun. And we all enjoy it to some extent. Going twice in one year you can space it out and go different times of the year too.
USA's Skateland lets you get in twice PER MONTH. But that's only entrance, and you have to still pay for skate rental. But it works out for us since 5 of us own our own rollerblades anyway.
The i.d.e.a. Museum was an interesting place. Not too big, but very interactive. Again, it's geared to younger children though. My older 2 kids were pretty over it in about a half hour max, with only 1 thing to keep them occupied. But for creative, younger kids, it's pretty cool.
Makutu's island is a big indoor play place. Huge I should say. It's a big indoor tree house with slides and bridges and tunnels. Take a McDonald's playplace and multiply it by 100! Good times for kids to run around like crazy and mom's to hang out in an air-conditioned building. And we went twice.
That's the roundup of what our family did in just under a year. There were 5 other venues that we either couldn't find time for, wasn't the right price even after free entrance or just plain wasn't up our alley as far as entertainment.
The costs are as follows:
Diamondbacks tickets would have cost $15/each. Equaling $90 for our family. Total of $180 for both games.
Pump it up entrance ( for 2 hours) would have been $10/kid. Equaling $50.
Phoenix Mercury tickets....no idea how much they would have been.
Rattlers tickets could have been gotten for $5/each. Equaling $30 for us. Total of $90 for 3 games.
Enchanted Island would have been a shocking $17/kid, $10/adult. Meaning $95 for our 1 visit!
Golfland Sunsplash would have cost $21.99/Ella, $29.99/each. Making it a whopping $171.94.
Phoenix Zoo would cost $20/adult, $14/kids (3-13 yrs). Equaling $96. Total of $192 for both visits.
USA's Skateland would cost $4/person. Equaling $24. Total of $96 (we only went 4 times)
i.d.e.a. Museum would have cost $8/person. Making it $48.
Makutu's Island would have cost $8.50/child. Making it $42.50. Total of $85 for our 2 visits.
That means paying full-price to have all that fun we would have spent a grand total of $1,007.94
All of which we got to do with only paying for our POGO passes which was $239.88
